HVAC Controls Analyst III

ENFRA LLC•Denver, CO
•$88,380 - $117,970

About The Position

The HVAC Controls Analyst III serves as a technical resource for Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) projects, focusing on HVAC system optimization, operational performance, and verification of energy savings. Projects are typically complex, multi-building and multi-campus portfolios in higher education and healthcare, with substantial mechanical infrastructure and advanced integrated control strategies. The role works closely with engineering and commissioning teams to assess building automation system (BAS) architecture, troubleshoot system performance, and deploy advanced HVAC sequences of operation across air and hydronic systems. Work includes conducting site assessments, analyzing trend data, developing and modifying direct digital control (DDC) logic, validating sequences, and supporting functional testing and ongoing optimization. The successful candidate applies advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, BAS platforms, networked controls, and energy conservation measures. The role translates engineering intent into effective control logic, leads complex troubleshooting, and implements programming approaches that support scalable energy savings. It also requires analytical problem-solving and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, with attention to quality, execution, and measurable operational improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, or four years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • At least five years of experience in HVAC controls, design, energy management, or other relevant fields.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong scope management and scheduling skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with owners, owner’s representatives, contractors, engineers, and architects while effectively driving project outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial MEP equipment design and operations.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Commissioning certification from ACG, BCxA, or ASHRAE.
  • Registered Engineering Intern (EI) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Studio and Revu software.
  • Strong technical background in developing, reviewing, and refining HVAC sequences of operation, with direct experience implementing control logic on platforms such as Siemens, JCI, Niagara, Schneider Electric, Alerton, ALC, and Honeywell.

Responsibilities

  • Apply a strong understanding of DDC controls.
  • Develop and implement energy conservation measures, including room ventilation schedules consistent with ASHRAE guidelines, in coordination with the project delivery team.
  • Lead surveys, documentation reviews, and due diligence to determine facility conditions and develop applicable energy conservation measures.
  • Participate in retro-commissioning and commissioning efforts on assigned projects.
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and modify BAS programming to implement energy conservation measures within existing sequences.
  • Coordinate directly with the project team to deliver high-quality, functional, and optimized systems.
  • Use test instrumentation to troubleshoot, verify, and optimize building system operation.
  • Maintain awareness of energy performance for assigned scopes throughout the project.
  • Collaborate with the project team to ensure performance targets are met and maintained.
  • Drive corrective actions when scope or performance gaps are identified.
  • Ensure issues are properly identified and communicated to the project team.
  • Assist with issue resolution by proposing and tracking implementation of solutions with the project team.
  • Proactively address and escalate constraints to achieving project outcomes and completing scope.
  • Use familiarity with building automation systems software.
