About The Position

ASRC Federal Communications is seeking an HVAC/Boiler Operator for their ISS2 contract supporting an Air Force customer at Eareckson Air Station in Shemya, AK. This is a rotational position with a schedule of 3 months on-site followed by 1 month off (unpaid). While on-site, housing is provided in dormitory facilities, and all meals are served in the cafeteria. Transportation to the station from Anchorage, AK, is provided by government-sponsored aircraft.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years’ verifiable experience as an HVAC technician or Boiler Tender.
  • Universal refrigerant card issued by the EPA.
  • Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Obtain an interim security clearance and maintain a secret clearance.
  • Must pass a background check, drug screening, fingerprints, and a fit-for-duty physical exam; candidates must be medically cleared for long-term residency in a remote location with limited access to healthcare.

  • Boiler Tender certificate of fitness.

Responsibilities

  • Tends one or more boilers to produce steam or high-temperature water for use in an establishment.
  • Fires boilers; observes and interprets readings on gauges, meters, and charts which register various aspects of boiler operation.
  • Performs repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of commercial, industrial, and residential heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units.
  • Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and tools.
  • Cuts and threads pipe using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.
  • Bends and forms sheet metal for ductwork, grease pans, etc.
  • Troubleshoots and locates malfunctions, diagnoses problems, and determines appropriate repairs for HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Adjusts, repairs, or replaces thermostats, pressure stats, relays, switches, and electrical wiring.
  • Repairs or replaces compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, and pulleys.
  • Services and repairs evaporators, condensers, and receivers.
  • Repacks valves, lubricates moving parts, replaces filters and cleans coils as needed.
  • Works from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal and written instructions.
  • Repairs components within a system to include transformers, motors, electrodes, solenoids, rheostats, PLC controls, and aqua stats.
  • Performs duties on PL-1 resources under the direction of the MDA Liaison.
  • Responds to call-outs after normal working hours as needed.
  • Assists other trades and crafts personnel in their daily operations, as directed.
  • Ensures proper housekeeping of jobsite, mechanical rooms, and shops.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
