About The Position

The boiler operator will oversee operation of boilers to produce steam or high-temperature and other associated equipment, maintain logs and associated paperwork and assist other trades in the operation and maintenance of a healthcare facility. You may be asked to switch to 2nd or 3rd shift at any point during the contract. This is based on the contract with the government. Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Willing to learn, follow instructions and work well with other members of the team.
  • Able and willing to perform all duties in conformance with company safety policies and procedures and follow company’s safety, health and accident prevention plan.
  • Able to accurately represent FSI to customers and other outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner and to communicate technical information effectively.
  • Sufficient computer experience to scan and email documents, create and edit word and excel documents.
  • A valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a NACI security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive maintenance on steam and hot water system including boilers, deaerators, flash tanks, heat exchangers, condensate return systems and pumps.
  • Observes and interprets readings on gauges, meters, and charts which register various aspects of boiler operation.
  • Adjusts controls to insure safe and efficient boiler operation and to meet demands for steam or high-temperature water.
  • Maintains a log in which various aspects of boiler operation are recorded.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on exhaust fans, water softeners, cooling towers and other equipment.
  • Cleans, removes corrosion and maintains finishes on machinery and equipment.
  • Maintains cleanliness of boiler house, mechanical rooms and storage areas.
  • Following prescribed methods, treats boiler water with chemicals and analyzes boiler water for such things as acidity, causticity, and alkalinity.
  • Assist other trades including HVAC mechanic, plumber, carpenter and general maintenance as required.
