About The Position

Reporting to the CGMJ railcar cleaning department, the Boiler Operator will perform all aspects of railcar cleaning per GATX procedures and policies. This role involves maintaining and operating boiler, Raptor, steam equipment, water management systems, closed loop cleaning system, and flare equipment. The employee will set an example and conduct activities consistent with the core values of GATX Rail, contributing to a positive environment for communication, empowerment, and continuous improvement. They will use technical expertise and problem-solving ability to maintain and repair a quality product and strive to produce in accordance with priority goals to ensure on-time delivery. The role also requires updating the Shop Portal, paper forms, and other documentation required by GATX procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, work orders, operating and maintenance instructions, and drawings.
  • Current 4th or 5th Class Engineer
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as IO instructions, FM instructions, work orders, AAR Field Manual, etc.
  • Ability to reason through and plan work details and procedures to obtain desired results.
  • Perform semi-routine jobs where judgment is required to obtain results.
  • Ability to make changes in routine or sequence on repetitive jobs involving selection, positioning, and manual tasks such as positioning, assembling, etc., at a steady pace where accuracy and dexterity of a high degree are required.
  • Ability to read, access, and interpret diagrams, Excel spreadsheets, and company policies.
  • Ability to work well with others in a positive manner

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of boiler operation, inspection, maintenance, and certification
  • Maintain boiler room equipment and facilities
  • Perform and oversee all aspects of railcar cleaning
  • Participate in SQDC Daily management meetings
  • Perform repair and rebuild duties
  • Update Shop Portal, paper forms, and other documentation required by GATX procedures
  • Set an example and conduct activities consistent with the core values of GATX Rail, contributing to a positive environment for communication, empowerment, and continuous improvement.
  • Use technical expertise and problem-solving ability to maintain and repair a quality product.
  • Strive to produce in accordance with priority goals to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Assist with planning, and scheduling departmental productions in accordance with priority goals to ensure an on-time delivery.
  • Perform pre-work that includes removing fittings, cutting jackets, and any other duties assigned for pre-work.
  • Ensure that all necessary work order documentation is complete to facilitate correct and timely completion.
