About The Position

The HVAC Apprentice works under the guidance of a licensed HVAC Journeyperson to learn and assist in operating facility systems, performing preventative and corrective maintenance, and routine services on facility mechanical and other systems for the assigned facility. The Apprentice is responsible for supporting work in accordance with established processes and practices and complying with internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, security, and fire protection.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; enrollment in an HVAC apprenticeship program preferred.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical principles.
  • Strong willingness to learn and adhere to processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance.
  • Ability to work safely and follow environmental, health, and safety guidelines.
  • Strong client-service orientation and sense of urgency.
  • Effective communication skills for data relay and clarification.
  • Must be available for on-call/standby and emergency call-outs as required.
  • Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Enrollment in a recognized HVAC apprenticeship program required.

Nice To Haves

  • Gasfitter I & II license in addition to refrigeration license is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in installing air conditioning, heating, and related equipment and components.
  • Supports overhauls and servicing of air conditioning and heating units and systems.
  • Helps repair, replace, and adjust worn or broken HVAC parts.
  • Assists with repairs and adjustments to valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings.
  • Learns to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with heating and air conditioning units and systems.
  • Assists in installing motors, thermostats, and humidistats.
  • Performs work under supervision in accordance with established processes and practices.
  • Complies with all internal and external requirements including environmental, health and safety, and fire protection.
  • Responds to routine and on-demand service requests and assists with preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Participates in regular monitoring, inspection, and maintenance to ensure facility uptime and safety objectives are met.
  • Assists in implementing preventative maintenance (PM) programs and ensures deficiencies are recorded and escalated.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of assigned tools/equipment and arranges for repair and replacement where required.
  • Provides observations about facility mechanical conditions and deficiencies under supervision.
  • Assists with facility-related projects.
  • Ensures work is performed in compliance with corporate and legislated policies and guidelines.
  • Maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required.
  • Submits all expenditures on a timely basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.
