About The Position

Oxfam Canada is seeking a Humanitarian Affairs Intern to support the functioning of the Humanitarian Unit. This role is part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program and is an 8-week term position. Oxfam Canada is an affiliate of the international Oxfam Confederation, working to build lasting solutions to poverty and injustice, with a focus on improving the lives and promoting the rights of women and girls. The organization challenges systems that perpetuate inequality and works to ensure women have a say in decisions affecting them. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing degree in relevant field of study (international development, political science, or in an area related to the humanitarian sector).
  • Strong written and spoken skills in English is required.
  • Strong computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail and database systems.
  • Capacity to analyze current political, social and economic policy and practice.
  • Ability to maintain organized administrative processes and systems.
  • Understanding a range of development issues (including poverty, justice and environmental issues).
  • Commitment to women’s rights and gender equality required.
  • Commitment to feminism, anti-racism, justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Willingness to sign and abide by the Oxfam Code of Conduct.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Candidates must be between the ages of 15 and 30, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred, and have a valid SIN Number.
  • International students, and persons who are here in Canada on a work, youth, or visitor visa/permit are not eligible for the program.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in mapping humanitarian stakeholders.
  • Provides administrative support to the Humanitarian Unit with regards to project implementation, tracking, development of new proposals, as well as assistance with events and activities.
  • Updating the Unit's engagement plan.
  • Supports research and analysis related to humanitarian policy.
  • Consult on and establish tracking systems for Humanitarian Unit's annual priorities.
  • Draft and review communications and other materials on behalf of the Deputy Director and other members of the Humanitarian Unit.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Compensation: $23.40/hour
