About The Position

The Human Services Program Specialist works under the direct supervision of Public Health Services Manager B - SES and maintains strict confidentiality in all aspects of school health activities. In this role, the position supports the overall functioning of the school health program by serving as the team leader in the absence of the School Health Nurse Coordinator and acting as the floater when needed to ensure adequate coverage across school sites.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and manages school health areas by providing first aid, assisting with prescription and non‑prescription medications after training, taking vital signs, and referring abnormal findings to the school nurse.
  • Notifies the principal before contacting parents regarding a child being sent home when the nurse is unavailable.
  • Performs routine screenings including vision, hearing, scoliosis, and BMI for both public and private school students.
  • Refers students with unsatisfactory screening results to the school nurse for further evaluation.
  • Notifies parents of students’ immunization status via telephone or during home visits.
  • Maintains health room logs and prepares client records.
  • Transports client identifiable information securely in a locked bag in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Travels to other schools to provide health services as needed.
  • Performs administrative duties such as maintaining reports, filing, making telephone calls, completing referrals, and conducting follow‑up activities delegated by the nurse.
  • Collects school health services data for the annual report and biennial plan.
  • Assists with the implementation of the Annual Florida Youth Survey (FYS).
  • Assists with the preparation of programs, presentations, and health fair activities.
  • Operates audio‑visual equipment and sets up rooms for health‑related events, ensuring required materials are obtained and returned.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors a streamlined process for collecting consent‑for‑services and emergency information forms.
  • Implements and monitors standardized sign‑in and sign‑out sheets for each school.
  • Assists with the implementation and relocation of school clinics.
  • Provides guidance for enhancements to the FOCUS electronic health system.
  • Provides school health training and orientation for both new and current staff members.
  • Assists in extra school activities, health fairs, and health promotion events to support student and family wellness.
  • Provides outreach to parents regarding immunization compliance and other health‑related needs.
  • Supports the delivery of school‑based health education and wellness initiatives in collaboration with school staff.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by management.
