About The Position

This is the entry-level position in the Human Services Professional class. Positions in this class receive training in the basic principles, methods, and techniques of professional human services work, along with an orientation to the specific work organization, its functions, objectives, policies, and procedures. Cases are assigned concurrently with orientation and training. Initially, cases may be fewer in number than those assigned to more experienced workers and will be those with problems limited in scope and complexity or requiring only short-term intervention. Cases are selected to develop the employee for progression to a higher level of work. Supervision is close and immediate, and work assignments are critically reviewed for compliance with instructions, application of approved practices, and to ensure potential for further training and development.

Requirements

Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
The bachelor's degree must include a minimum of twelve (12) semester credit hours in courses such as counseling, criminal justice, human services, psychology, social work, social welfare, sociology, or other behavioral sciences.
Education background must demonstrate the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents.
Education background must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret complex written material.
Education background must demonstrate the ability to solve complex problems logically and systematically.
Must not have engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution.
Must not have been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.
Must not have been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above.
Must not have been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
Must be subject to drug screening.
Must be subject to an intensive background check.

Responsibilities

Handle assigned cases, which may initially be fewer in number and limited in scope and complexity.
Intervene in cases requiring short-term intervention.
Develop skills for progression to a higher level of work through case assignments.
Work under close and immediate supervision.
Have work assignments closely and critically reviewed for compliance and application of approved practices.
