About The Position

Under general supervision, performs a variety of intake duties to support the delivery of case management and intervention services; performs related work as required. This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Washoe County Human Services Agency. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. Schedule Requirements (Current Vacancy): This position works a graveyard shift, Wednesday–Saturday, 10:00 PM–8:00 AM, including weekend coverage. A hybrid schedule will be available following the initial training period.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, psychology, social work, sociology, education, or a closely related field.
• A valid driver’s license is required at time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
• Ability to cooperate in a strong teamwork driven environment.
• Must reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.

• An internship in public child welfare or fieldwork related to the profession is desirable.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills with clients from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds, division staff, representatives of other departments, and the general public - communicating with empathy and professionalism even in emotionally charged or hostile interactions.
• Previous exposure and experience with protective services for diverse and vulnerable populations.
• Written communication skills in both formal and informal situations.
• Demonstrate good judgment and employ critical thinking.
• Be bilingual, having the ability to communicate effectively with non-English-speaking clients and community members.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of intake duties to support the delivery of case management and intervention services.
• Translates detailed, sensitive information gathered during interviews into clear, factual, and well-organized intake reports and case histories.
• Identifies issues, gathers additional and clarifying information, and seeks consultation and guidance in support of departmental goals.
• Provides consistent, dependable coverage for reports of abuse, neglect, and crisis situations.
