About The Position

The Human Services Enforcement Assistant position in the Division of Support Enforcement & Recovery (DSER) is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. This is a paraprofessional role providing administrative support in a Child Support Office. Duties can vary and include processing administrative and legal documents, communicating with parents, managing correspondence, providing telephone customer service, building cases, managing contact with individuals applying for child support services, document imaging and indexing, scheduling genetic testing, and assisting with general office duties. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is dedicated to promoting health, safety, resilience, and opportunity for Maine people, providing health and social services to approximately a third of the State's population. The Office for Family Independence, Division of Support Enforcement & Recovery (DSER) is responsible for establishing paternity, locating non-custodial parents, establishing and enforcing child support orders, and representing the Department’s interest in the Maine District Court. This position requires occasional travel.

Requirements

  • Foundational education, training, and/or experience in office/administrative support work or another related area demonstrating competency in applying office support processes, procedures, and practices; gathering and organizing information; tracking and maintaining records; and explaining or assisting with administrative processes.
  • Skills in Outlook, Excel, MS Word and comparable word processing/spreadsheet applications.
  • Data Entry (entering data and narratives)
  • Written and Verbal Communications, including keyboarding & telephone skills

Responsibilities

  • Processing administrative documents and assisting with processing legal documents, which may include wage attachments, license revocation, passport denial and placing/releasing motor vehicle liens
  • Communicating with parents, answering questions, and providing information about the child support program
  • Managing and prioritizing correspondence/contacts, including electronic and hard mail, addressing time sensitive mail promptly
  • Telephone Customer Service
  • Building cases and managing contact with individuals applying for child support services
  • Document imaging and indexing
  • Scheduling genetic testing
  • Assisting with general office duties
