About The Position

This position involves investigative and protective services work focused on locating non-custodial parents, establishing, enforcing, and collecting child support obligations, and establishing paternity for children born out of wedlock. The role includes initiating administrative collection actions, pursuing court action, and representing the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in Maine District Court regarding child support matters. The position is located in Portland and allows for partial telework with management approval. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is dedicated to promoting health, safety, resilience, and opportunity for Maine people, providing health and social services to a significant portion of the state's population. The Office for Family Independence, Division of Support Enforcement & Recovery (DSER) is responsible for ensuring non-custodial parents contribute to their children's financial support.

Requirements

• A Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, Business or Public Administration, or a related field.
• Directly related paraprofessional or higher-level experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Applicants are subject to pre-employment screening including verification of minimum qualifications, application information, employment history, and references.
• Selected candidates must have a successfully completed fingerprint-based criminal history record check on file and conducted every 5 years to ensure continued suitability for this position.

Responsibilities

• Investigative services work in locating non-custodial parents.
• Establishing, enforcing, and collecting child support obligations.
• Establishing the paternity of children born out of wedlock.
• Enforcement services work initiating administrative collection actions.
• Initiating appropriate court action.
• Representing the Department's interest in Maine District Court in matters pertaining to child support.
