About The Position

The Human Services Counselor II is a professional position providing support and assistance to staff and pregnant women and families with newborns to optimize the home environment for their physical and mental well being. This is a child abuse/neglect prevention program.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software and ability to enter data in computer.
  • Has the skills and abilities to be an effective trainer.
  • Knowledgeable of the Healthy Families model and curriculum.
  • Possesses professional interpersonal skills.
  • High school diploma or its equivalent, as mandated by the policies of Healthy Families Florida.
  • Valid driver's license and daily access to reliable personal transportation for home visiting purposes.
  • Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and Saturdays to meet the needs of program participants.
  • At least two years experience working with children and/or families.

Responsibilities

  • Attends community meetings and represents the program/division. Attends community events, representing the agency, passing out promotional items and educating the public on the Healthy Families Program.
  • Researches upcoming community events and completes registrations for the Gold Medal Dads team, FES team & Safe Baby Programs.
  • Ensures staff have the appropriate materials to promote their programs and the larger DOH.
  • Collaborates with the Safe Baby Supervisor, Gold Medal Dads Supervisor, FES Supervisor, and the Program Manager to ensure adequate staffing patterns at community events.
  • Participates as the Program lead on the JWB Fatherhood Collaborative. Volunteers regularly to assist in planning and implementing community fatherhood events sponsored by the collaboration.
  • Works with supervisors to determine staff training needs and provides both group trainings and 1:1 training to promote staff development.
  • Provides new staff orientation and organization training; frequency to be determined as needed.
  • Provides support to North, Mid and South County Healthy Families teams to organize and implement parent groups, graduations, and other parent events.
  • Attends all planning meetings and events as requested.
  • Locates venues and cultivates relationships to obtain space donations.
  • Recruits guest speakers, entertainment and other vendors for group events.
  • Provides specialized consultation about community resources and training for HFP staff for all staff on HFP's Core Parenting & Child Development curriculum.
  • Acts as the Program FSI Coordinator. Attends FSI side door meetings weekly.
  • Reviews all incoming request packets for completeness.
  • Works collaboratively with Program Supervisors, PMs, and FSS to obtain necessary documentation.
  • Completes data entry into the FSI system.
  • Meets with families as needed.
  • Visits each Healthy Families location weekly to build and maintain relationships.
  • Researches and disseminates information on affordable rental housing both in the public and private sector.
  • Networks with non profit agencies and housing authorities to obtain information timely.
  • Assists staff in assisting program participants complete applications.
  • Researches and disseminates information on educational, vocational and employment opportunities in both the public and private sector, as well as community events for families.
  • Researches, collects and disseminates safety alerts and recalls relating to children’s products.
  • Researches, collects and disseminates free or low-cost family centered activities within the community.
