About The Position

The Office of Employee Development (OED), within the CDOT Human Resources (HR) Division, seeks a motivated, responsible college student or recent graduate who is pursuing a career in human resources, learning/training, and/or organization/employee development. This part-time collegiate internship aims to provide meaningful experience in the areas of training, learning, and employee development to students with proven academic performance and a strong desire to learn and contribute. OED coordinates training and learning for employees across the state. This includes: delivering leadership training; managing the required supervisor training curriculum; organizing IT and technical training; leading SAP training; managing and growing a curriculum of practical/job-related training; leading the Transportation Engineering Training Program (TETP); coordinating National Highway Institute (NHI) training for the engineering division; overseeing required compliance training (e.g., cyber security, HR legal and policy), administering the statewide learning management system (LMS); running reports in the LMS; partnering with the Department of Personnel & Administration (DPA) on related and complementary training offerings; administering the CDOT tuition and certification reimbursement program; and delivering Maintenance and Operations training across the state. This internship is a great opportunity for a college student who is seeking experience working in any business setting. In this position, you will gain significant Human Resources (HR) and business organization experience, including: Computer use: Google Meet, Adobe, MS Office, VPN, Intranet, and using multiple software environments (training, testing, production) Data presentation: Presenting data via Excel reports Business writing: Writing internal communications about training and related programs Design experience: Learn website design using Google sites as well as graphic design and writing for the web Diverse business skills: Conducting meetings in person and virtually; prioritizing work duties; time management with multiple projects/assignments; problem solving and troubleshooting issues for various project; leadership/initiative when taking on and learning new assignments; adaptability in how you use resources to accomplish tasks; and creativity in terms of design, process improvements, etc.

Requirements

  • A recent college graduate. Recently graduated means the individual should have attended an accredited college or university and have graduated with an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree related to Human Resources within the past three years.
  • OR Any college student enrolled in an accredited community college, college, or university seeking an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in an area related to Human Resources.
  • OR A certified participant in the Colorado Refugee Services Program
  • A legible copy of your official or unofficial college transcript(s) or an official foreign credential evaluation report must be submitted with your application.
  • Transcripts must show the name of the school, completed credit hours, and (if applicable) that a degree was conferred.
  • Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have been assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service.
  • Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the CDOT LMS and serve as an administrator, which includes managing courses; scheduling and monitoring classes: supporting instructors; recording learning after classes are held; producing a wide variety of reports from the system and formatting them for customers; and more
  • Learn the tuition and certification reimbursement program and process; receive employee request for reimbursement; process and track requests
  • Support trainers with various tasks, such as: pulling and sending training materials; communication with regional staff in support of training duties, helping maintain the training storage areas; reviewing training materials (e.g., editorial review); and so forth.
  • Test e-Learning; participate in development and design reviews; help test e-Learning for content quality, usability and functionality; and build and test data for technical training classes
  • Help create tutorials, how-to instructions and practical training tools that the workforce needs.
  • Support virtual web training delivery by serving as a moderator during live sessions and doing other related training coordination activities
  • From time to time, attend training classes led by OED or DMO Training instructors, shadowing trainers and assisting with some training delivery as appropriate
  • Assist with coordination and scheduling of training for classes requested through National Highway Institute (NHI) programs
  • Other job duties as assigned
