About The Position

The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office (ILSOS) is seeking a Human Resources Trainer (Managerial Assistant III) to join their Personnel Department in Springfield. This role is crucial for developing and delivering training programs for all new and existing employees, with a primary focus on leading New Employee Orientations (NEOs) in Springfield. The HR Trainer will contribute to the creation of training materials, technological presentations, and assessment tools on various HR-related topics. This position offers the opportunity to make recommendations for training improvements and collaborate with colleagues and management to implement them. The HR Trainer will be responsible for all aspects of NEOs, including preparation, delivery, follow-up, and analysis of attendee evaluations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college, with coursework in public or business administration.
  • Three years of responsible professional experience in a public or private organization.
  • Professional, competent, and engaging presentation skills for groups of 5-10 to 25-50 people.
  • Ability to respond to questions from new employees warmly, empathetically, accurately, and completely.
  • Organized, diligent, and timely in handling all preparation and wrap-up paperwork for training sessions.
  • Possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s License and insurance.
  • Must be lawfully authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Springfield New Employee Orientations (NEOs), conducting 2-4 or more day-long sessions per month for 5-25 new employees each, plus additional sessions for temporary summer workers.
  • Present the entire NEO program (6-7 hours) and/or support colleagues in presenting parts of the program.
  • Notify new employees of NEO details and prepare voluminous packets of materials for each trainee.
  • Present and grade tests administered at the end of NEOs.
  • Manage all follow-up paperwork for new employees after NEOs, including analyzing and summarizing evaluations for proposed improvements.
  • Assist in developing and leading targeted trainings in other ILSOS areas of need, including program development, implementation, and presentation of materials, evaluations, and selection of presentation aids.
  • Conduct training on topics such as Customer Service, Ethics, Sexual Harassment, Discipline, Right to Know, Completing Performance Evaluations, Attendance Monitoring, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and other leaves.
  • Travel to various sites within the State of Illinois in support of work duties.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
