About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Positions in this level perform vocational and paraprofessional human resources work in the performance of human resources transactions in one or more areas of human resources, and in the provision of information and advice to employees and the public. Incumbent’s duties are transactional in nature, and will involve work in multiple disciplines of HR, such as recruitment, employment, compensation & classification, employee relations, benefits. Position provides relevant human resources customer service to employees and general public to provide information in response to HR questions; refers and directs inquiries to higher level where appropriate; processes HR transactions in the designated area; processes, verifies and maintains standard HR documents such as pre-employment materials, change of status forms; prepares and maintains relevant HR documentation, forms and records; gathers information for review and analysis by others related to HR transactions. This is not all-encompassing and other duties may be assigned. The Department of Adult Correction, Division of Community Supervision has an exciting opportunity for an entry-level HR professional interested in the full life cycle of recruitment. The position requires the ability to make decisions, multi-task, and independently prioritize work to ensure customer satisfaction and confidentiality. This position works as part of a team of HR professionals in the Judicial Division I office with responsibilities in the following areas: -Participating in hiring events in the Judicial Division I area -Tracking and coordinating the placement of staff using electronic methods-Job posting, screening and closing out the process when the position is filled -Creating interview and hiring packages-Determining hiring rates within established salary guidelines and documenting -Salary justifications -Onboarding-Acting as Health Benefits Representative (HBR) -Utilizing HR systems (Workday, ATS, Fiori) and Microsoft Office Suite -Conducting background checks The Position is also responsible for aiding staff in compliance with federal and state agency guidelines to include: -Health insurance, other insurance programs unique to DAC, NC Flex programs, -Short Term and Long-Term Disability, Retirement programs, -The determination of eligibility for all types of leave offered by the state (FML, -Leave Without Pay, Voluntary Shared Leave, Community Service, Paid Parental Leave, Military Leave, etc.), -Workers' Compensation, ADA compliance. The position interacts with administrative staff and managers in the Judicial District offices and is the first point of contact for employee inquiries, time administration and/or payroll questions. This position does not involve interaction with offenders. This is a full-time positions (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Requirements

  • Documented experience using Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Documented experience using an Applicant Tracking System.
  • Documented experience maintaining files and/or record keeping.
  • Documented experience generating reports and/or interpreting data.
  • Documented experience using Workday for recruitment functions
  • Associate’s degree, typically in Human Resources from an appropriately accredited institution or relevant field and no years of experience required; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and 2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.
