About The Position

JIAS Toronto is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to helping immigrants with settlement in the Greater Toronto Area. JIAS Toronto assists immigrants and refugees in meeting basic financial, language, social, and other requirements of immigration. We work to advance the well-being and social integration of newcomers by providing a full range of settlement support, counseling, language training, and referral services. We are currently looking for an HR Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be ensuring a culture of continuous learning, engagement, and high performance is maintained, while ensuring HR practices align with organizational objectives and legislative requirements, under the supervision of the Manager, Human Resources. This is a position outside the Bargaining Unit.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Organizational Development or a related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably in a non-profit environment.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering employee training programs.
  • Experience in HR generalist functions including orientations, employee relations, employee engagement, and policy interpretation.
  • A strong understanding of best practices and demonstrated working knowledge of relevant employment legislation in Ontario and workplace compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and HRIS programs such as Workforce Now/ADP

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of or working towards Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is preferred.
  • Adult education or instructional design certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop learning materials, presentations and facilitate instructor-led and virtual training sessions on HR-related topics, workplace policies, and professional skills.
  • Identify and coordinate external training opportunities, workshops, conferences, e-learning resources, and employee development programs.
  • Maintain the Learning and Development calendar and training records and monitor mandatory training compliance.
  • Assist with developing, coordinating, and delivering orientation, onboarding programs.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives and recognition programs, assist with the coordination of Town Halls, wellness and employee well-being programs, and special events.
  • Assist with employee surveys and post-events evaluations.
  • Support change management activities and participate in HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with drafting HR related communication and updates, preparation and distribution of documents, presentations and other materials, collaborating with communications team as needed.
  • Stay current on employment legislation, HR trends, and learning and development best practices.
  • Respond to employee inquiries related to policies, procedures and programs, while fostering a positive, open line of communication.
  • Provide support for benefits administration and recruitment support as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
