About The Position

The Hands On Children’s Museum is seeking a Human Resources Manager to join their team. This role is responsible for managing the employee experience, from recruitment and onboarding to benefits administration and compliance. The ideal candidate is a people-person who enjoys problem-solving and contributing to a positive, purpose-driven work environment. The museum is a nationally recognized family learning destination located on the waterfront in Olympia, Washington, dedicated to stimulating curiosity and creativity through interactive learning experiences. They are committed to serving all children, regardless of their ability to pay, and have received awards for their work in art and science education for underserved populations. The facility includes numerous exhibits, an outdoor discovery center, art studio, make space, café, gift shop, and various education programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or a related field, or an HR certification (SHRM-CP/PHR).
  • 3+ years of HR experience.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience with HRIS systems (e.g., Paylocity, ADP).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A people-first mindset.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism.
  • Proactive, organized, and solutions-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding policies, benefits, and payroll.
  • Support managers in employee relations, including coaching and conflict resolution.
  • Contribute to building a positive, inclusive, and engaging workplace culture.
  • Manage the recruitment process, including posting jobs, screening candidates, and coordinating interviews.
  • Lead onboarding and orientation processes to ensure new hires feel welcomed.
  • Support smooth offboarding procedures.
  • Process semi-monthly payroll.
  • Maintain HRIS systems and ensure accurate employee records.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable HR laws and regulations (local, state, and federal).
  • Administer employee leave programs, such as FMLA and Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave.
  • Oversee benefits enrollment and manage relationships with benefits vendors.
  • Manage the Open Enrollment process for employee benefits.
  • Support employee recognition programs and internal communications.
  • Track required training and coordinate training sessions.
  • Ensure employees have the necessary tools for success.
  • Assist in planning all-staff meetings.
  • Participate in and help lead the FUN Committee.
  • Foster employee engagement across the museum team.
