About The Position

As a Human Resources Generalist, you will be responsible for several human resource activities. Duties include supporting the organization through work in several areas of human resources, which may include coordinating employment activities, participating in union contract negotiations (where applicable), receiving, and acting on employee complaints or grievances, administering employee records, ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations, recommending, and coordinating employee training activities and administering compensation, benefits and performance programs. The ideal Human Resources Generalist will possess a strong work ethic, value teamwork, have professional integrity, and a strong sense of personal accountability in a fast-paced environment. This role is based in office full-time, requiring on-site attendance five days per week. Consistent in-person presence is essential for the HR Generalist at our corporate office.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations in assigned region(s).
  • Advanced knowledge of Human Resources including but not limited to employee relations, benefits, leave of absences, policies, programs, investigations, disciplinary action, etc.
  • Must be able to speak knowledgeably about all major HR issues facing American Furniture Warehouse

  • Budgeting and payroll experience
  • Hands on experience with HRIS/HCM and Recruiting software

  • Ability to navigate multiple computer systems, type 35+ wpm, advanced familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), advanced internet research skills, and advanced experience with HRIS/HCM and payroll systems (Oracle preferred.)

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications and licenses related to Human Resources, business and safety are preferred.
  • PHR and/or SHRM certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Recruits, interviews, tests, and selects employees to fill vacant positions.
  • Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
  • Keeps records of benefits plans participation such as insurance and pension plan, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
  • Trains management in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.
  • Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization.
  • Administers salary administration program to ensure compliance and equity within organization.
  • Administers benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, pension plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
  • Investigates accidents and prepares reports for insurance carrier.
  • Conducts wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rate.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
