About The Position

The Human Resources Generalist role is a position that supports in several functions within the Human Resources (HR) and all entities of California Giant Inc. The ideal candidate is an Human Resources Generalist who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership, and is not afraid to roll up their sleeves to get the work done. This role is responsible for executing critical payroll and HR operations while continuously improving processes through automation, data, and AI-driven tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Business Administration, or related field; or additional experience in lieu of education
  • 3+ years’ experience working within a human resources team
  • Biliterate English / Spanish
  • Working knowledge of payroll & HR practices, applicable safety & labor laws, and procedures, including agriculture practices
  • Knowledge of payroll systems/HRIS, Microsoft Office, AI tools, and reporting capabilities
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and execute with accuracy
  • Discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive documents
  • Demonstrate a strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skill
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Works well both independently and in a team environment
  • High level of ownership, work ethic, and follow-through
  • Ability to travel to other locations.
  • Ability to conduct training at different sites in-person or via video
  • Ability to work with highly diverse workforce
  • Maintain a valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Business Administration, or related field
  • CPP, SHRM-CP, or industry related certification

Responsibilities

  • Own payroll operations including timecard processing, payroll preparation, reporting, and compliance filings (EDD, garnishments, W-2, etc)
  • Ensure payroll-related processes are audit-ready, accurate, and completed on schedule every cycle without rework
  • Maintain strong documentation and reporting discipline across systems (SharePoint, HRIS, etc)
  • Serve as a frontline HR partner supporting employees and managers with responsiveness, professionalism, and discretion
  • Assist in resolving employee relations matters while escalating appropriately
  • Administer benefits, LOA/FMLA, retirement plans, wellness program, ACA and employee communications
  • Supports the company’s philanthropic and company events to create an excellent employee experience.
  • Continuously evaluate HR processes and identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and improve efficiency using AI and digital tools
  • Leverage HRIS, reporting tools, and emerging AI capabilities to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and generate insights
  • Partner with HR leadership on digital transformation initiatives (automation, reporting, employee self-service tools)
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to facilitate the process from job description review, marketing & sourcing, interviewing, offers, and onboarding
  • Ensure onboarding is completed and new hires are setup for success
  • Contribute to employee engagement initiatives and company events that strengthen culture
  • Help deliver training and communicate HR programs effectively across a diverse workforce
  • Stay current on labor laws, safety requirements, and HR compliance obligations
  • Support audits, reporting requirements, and safety program collaboration
  • Work with the Safety committee to build safety programs company wide
  • Support fleet program
  • Other duties as assigned.
