About The Position

The Melanson Company, a Tecta America Company, is seeking a Human Resources Generalist/Payroll Specialist for their office in Keene, NH. This role will manage the day-to-day operations of the Human Resource function, including payroll, recruiting, legal issues, employee relations, performance management, learning and development, policies and procedures, and employee records/files. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related discipline.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft software programs.
  • Experience performing computerized payroll processing.
  • 4 to 5 years’ experience administering and implementing human resource programs.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Comfortable working with numbers and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to build relationships, be trustworthy, and interact with all levels of employees.
  • Ability to manage by influence rather than by rules and policies.
  • Ability to multi-task essential duties.
  • Willingness to learn and serve as back-up for additional duties.
  • Ability to travel to other operating units occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Processing weekly in-house payroll for 120-160 employees.
  • Overseeing and reviewing remote time entry.
  • Entering office and salaried time.
  • Processing, reviewing, and issuing weekly employee paychecks and statements of earnings.
  • Preparing various payroll reports for management, accounting, and corporate.
  • Transmitting direct deposit, 401k, and agency payments.
  • Maintaining electronic employee cards.
  • Maintaining payroll records and reports for accurate and compliant recordkeeping.
  • Processing special payrolls as needed.
  • Handling monthly benefit billing for all providers.
  • Preparing Certified Payroll filings as required.
  • Managing vacation accruals.
  • Working with hiring managers to identify applicant attributes and develop strategies for filling vacancies.
  • Posting vacancy notices in a timely manner and targeting high-quality applicants.
  • Reviewing resumes and recommending candidates to hiring managers.
  • Suggesting and administering recruitment strategies.
  • Addressing employment and labor law issues, acting as a listener to identify potential legal issues and escalating them to the Operating Unit President (OUP).
  • Working closely with OUP and GMs to address legal issues related to terminations, employee conduct, policy implementation, and others.
  • Monitoring compliance with state, federal, and local labor laws.
  • Developing and maintaining the employee handbook with the OUP and GMs.
  • Answering questions on policy interpretation and implementation.
  • Monitoring compliance with corporate policies related to hiring, termination, and compensation.
  • Maintaining employee personnel files for completeness and inclusion of appropriate records.
  • Performing an initial review of the HR office filing system.
  • Working closely with General Managers to assist with employee issues, including hiring, termination, discipline, and performance conversations.
  • Building trust and relationships with all levels of the organization.
  • Responding quickly to employee questions and requests for assistance.
  • Assisting employees with the annual benefits renewal process and periodic changes.
