About The Position

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and people-focused Human Resources Assistant to support the daily work of our Human Resources team. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in building a career in Human Resources while gaining hands-on experience in recruiting, onboarding, employee support, training, and HR administration. Whether you are a recent graduate, currently pursuing education in Human Resources or Business, or have experience in reception, customer service, office administration, or administrative support, this position provides an opportunity to learn and grow within a mission-driven organization dedicated to helping animals and the people who care for them. Our Human Resources team supports employees across a wide variety of departments, helping ensure staff have the resources, training, and support they need to succeed. As a Human Resources Assistant, you will play an important role in creating a positive employee experience while developing valuable professional skills that can serve as a foundation for future growth within the HR profession.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Dependable, organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional education or coursework in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Experience in reception, customer service, office administration, or administrative support.
  • A positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in supporting employees and organizational success.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruiting activities by posting open positions, scheduling interviews, communicating with candidates, and supporting hiring events and outreach efforts.
  • Coordinate new employee onboarding and orientation activities.
  • Prepare employment paperwork.
  • Maintain employee records and ensure information is entered accurately into HR systems.
  • Assist with training coordination and recordkeeping.
  • Support special projects that support employee engagement and organizational effectiveness.
  • Serve as a helpful resource for applicants, employees, and managers by providing administrative support and directing questions to the appropriate HR team members.
