About The Position

Chesterfield Fire and EMS (CFEMS) is seeking an experienced HR professional to work in a fast-paced, dynamic HR environment supporting a progressive and professional public safety agency. We are looking for a team player with the education, knowledge and experience needed to support the department’s 600+ sworn and civilian members and 150+ volunteers. This role will function as an Employee Relations/Employment Specialist to coordinate, execute and monitor changes to department policies and procedures, assist in coordinating employee relations issues, provide HR and administrative support for both civilian and sworn recruitment, hiring and retirement processes. All employees within the HR Division are cross-trained to provide the highest level of service to our current and future employees. Chesterfield Fire and EMS is a dynamic and progressive department. Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources administration; of pertinent federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Ability to analyze difficult problems, evaluate alternatives and make sound, appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines.
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and confidential personnel issues and employee situations.
  • Ability to provide guidance and direction pertaining to applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures and assigned human resource function(s).
  • Ability to interpret, apply and explain human resources policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational management, business or public administration, or a related field.
  • Two years of professional experience in human resources.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Society of Human Resources Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), or other certification in the assigned area of responsibility is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in and assists with the implementation of major human resources processes, programs or functions.
  • Provides information and guidance regarding the hiring and retirement processes.
  • Provides guidance, assistance and information to department management on a variety of human resources-related matters.
  • Researches, compiles, analyzes and summarizes data and information for decision-making, reports and special projects, and makes recommendations.
  • Interprets, applies and explains human resources policies, procedures, laws and regulations, and assists in developing and modifying policies and procedures, as assigned.
  • Develops and prepares training curriculum on varied and specialized human resources related topics and provides staff training when needed.
  • Performs other work as required.
