About The Position

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Human Resource Generalist to support the Butte District. This position works closely with the District/Division Leadership and Human Resources staff. The predominant work is recruitment and selection. This position will also work with Family Medical Leave, Classification, Workers Compensation, background checks, random drug testing and CDL-Clearinghouse processes. The Human Resources Generalists will work on HR projects and will be a strategic partner for MDT. This position could have a reporting location of either Butte or Bozeman. This position is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Human Resources, Communications, Business, or Public Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • One (1) year of human resources experience
  • Knowledge of MDT’s Recruitment and Selection Policy, Union Contracts, and Records Retention policy
  • Knowledge of specific state policies, and union contracts
  • Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of Human Resources processes
  • Interpreting state and federal employment laws
  • Understanding personnel information
  • Understanding the needs and business operations of the MDT
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of employees and varying levels of performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and assessment
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Skill in computer and business software applications (recruitment programs, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, etc.)
  • Skill in the operation of general office equipment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to research, gather and analyze facts and circumstances and draw sound conclusions
  • Ability to use discretion and judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to plan, organize, and gather information
  • Common-sense approach to solving problems
  • Must pass a name-based background investigation
  • Driver’s record will be verified
  • Compliance with Mont. Admin. R. 2.6.201, "State Vehicle Use," and MDT Policy #6.03.001, "State Vehicle Use Policy"
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
