About The Position

The Human Resources (HR) Assistant I/II provides administrative support to the Human Resources department on all personnel matters and assists with day-to-day operations. The position requires an extremely perceptive person who can relate to individuals at all levels. As unique situations present themselves, the incumbent must be sensitive to AVCP’s needs, employee goodwill, and the public image. This is a career ladder position. (The movement to a Level II position requires achievement of the required skills as well as availability to move forward as the HR departmental budget permits.)

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least one (1) year of work experience in an administrative support role.
  • At least six (6) more months of direct and proven human resources experience (for Level II).
  • Previous evaluations were noted as good to excellent (for Level II).
  • Proven ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from communities, peers, and the general public (for Level II).
  • Proven ability to write reports and correspondence as required.
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment is required.
  • Must have strong written and verbal skills.
  • High level administrative skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required.
  • Proficiency in office and computer equipment and software is required to include Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous HR experience is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Yup’ik lifestyles is preferred.
  • Fluency in Yup’ik is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with and participates in established policies and procedures, corporate and department objectives, quality improvement program, and safety standards.
  • Reviews employment applications and assess applicant’s knowledge, skills, and abilities related to job requirements for eligible positions at AVCP.
  • Follow up with related clerical aspects of, such as sending out Thank you letters to those not hired.
  • Coordinate all vacancy posting by tracking applicants who apply for vacant positions.
  • Act as liaison with employment agencies, preparation and liaison with advertising agencies and employment verifications, when necessary.
  • Prepare and maintain employee files, assuring accuracy, compliance and confidentiality. i.e. unemployment claims, verifications, I-9 status and State regulations.
  • Performs customer service functions by answering employees’ requests and questions.
  • Assists with processing of terminations.
  • Schedules meetings and interviews as requested by HR Coordinator.
  • Makes photocopies, faxes documents and performs other clerical functions.
  • Certified within the Drug Testing Program to provide testing of employees as required.

  • Ability to work well with various partners
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of information.
  • Coordinate background checks (prior employment references, transcripts, etc. to gain adequate information on which to base a selection decision.
  • Analyzed information provided on a prospective applicant’s application form for completeness.
  • Assist in professional recruitment efforts as requested.
  • Completion of weekly reports on employment activities.
