About The Position

Hull Technician is responsible for completing assignments relevant to painting tasks, hull preservation, proper deck maintenance, and overall deck shipboard responsibilities. The role involves maintaining and preserving the USS Lexington, demonstrating boatswains’ work, and adhering to seamanship ethics and principles.

Requirements

A minimum of 1 year experience with welding techniques and metalwork.
Understanding of shipboard plumbing systems and marine sanitation.
Proficiency in using various tools and equipment.
Ability to work in confined spaces and various weather conditions.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong physical condition and stamina.
Valid Texas driver’s license and an insurable driving record.

Vocational training in a relevant field may be advantageous.

Responsibilities

Ensuring spaces and structures are properly preserved, painted, and cleaned.
Evaluating spaces regarding materials and time of completion.
Coordinating schedules with other departments (Engineering, Plumbing, Electrical, Curatorial) for smooth transitions.
Painting and highlighting inadequate ship structures that pose safety problems in high-traffic areas.
Responsible for corrosion control, including sanding, sandblasting, priming, and painting.
Maintenance of deck/paint and preservation.
Ensuring safety/training/qualifications standards are met.
Time management.
Procurement of materials, including paint formula and paint mixtures.
Maintenance of daily projects.
Performing collateral assignments.
Operating heavy equipment such as Forklift, cranes, elevator, scissor lift, JLG, etc.
Working as a team member with other departments and volunteers to ensure timely project completion.
Directing visitors.
Understanding and implementing the Lexington’s Safety Program.
Understanding and implementing the Lexington’s Heavy Weather Plan.
Performing other job duties as delegated by the Hull Technician Supervisor or Director of Operations.
