HUD Housing Specialist
About The Position
Unity House of Troy is seeking a HUD Housing Specialist to support their Housing Support Services Program. This role focuses on helping individuals and families secure and maintain stable housing while fostering strong partnerships with landlords and community providers. Unity House is a Rensselaer County-based human service agency that provides a wide range of services to meet the otherwise unmet needs of people in the community who are hurting and struggling. They assist those who are living in poverty, adults living with mental illness or HIV/AIDS, victims of domestic violence, and children with developmental delays. The organization works to achieve social justice in the community and to create a better understanding of those they serve.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED with a minimum of 3 years of related experience
- Valid and clean New York State driver’s license
- Reliable transportation required
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year of experience in human services or a related field
- Associate degree in a related field with 2 years of experience
- Experience with HUD housing regulations and rental housing programs
Responsibilities
- Identify and secure housing opportunities for program participants
- Provide ongoing housing support to ensure long-term stability
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community landlords
- Serve as a liaison between tenants, property owners, and service providers
- Review leases to ensure compliance with New York State laws
- Conduct apartment inspections as required
- Coordinate services and provide support to program participants
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment
