About The Position

PAL: Play. Advocate. Live Well. is a preventative health nonprofit that creates equitable opportunities for active living and healthy healthy eating in Spartanburg County. PAL’s key projects include hosting the annual downtown Criterium and Turkey Day 8K, spearheading the Daniel Morgan Trail System and parks like the Rail Yard, partnering on the Saluda Grade Trail, building the PAL Food Hub and advocating for a strong local food system. The Farmers Market Coordinator is responsible for managing the Hub City Farmers Market throughout the season including – but not limited to - marketing, programming, and logistics of the market. The Market Coordinator is an important member of the Food Systems Team at PAL and will represent the organization and the market in the Spartanburg community. This position will also conduct SNAP outreach activities on behalf of SC DSS and implement SNAP and food assistance programs at the Hub City Farmers Market.

  • Knowledge and experience in local food systems

  • Personable and able to handle sometimes difficult situations with vendors
  • Willingness to engage community members and interact with market customers

  • Be capable of exercising a high degree of delegated responsibility
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to change

Responsibilities

  • Oversee market on Saturday and Sunday (covered by program manager as needed)
  • Implement policies of the market
  • Review applications and contact vendors as needed
  • Assist with vendor recruitment with direction from program manager
  • Manage weekly interactions with vendors
  • Fee collection and token reimbursement
  • Market map emails and information
  • Market updates
  • Implement SNAP and Double SNAP programs at market
  • Assist with SNAP applications as needed
  • Conduct DSS/SNAP outreach activities including site visits
  • Organize and implement market programming (in collab with program manager)
  • Schedule entertainment and program events
  • Manage vendor relationships
  • Handle customer inquiries and emails
  • Coordinate market volunteer participation
  • Assist with marketing activities (in collab with marketing team)
  • Record data for grant reporting, growth reporting, and communications
  • Support PAL staff, initiatives, marketing, and events as needed
  • Seek out professional development opportunities
