About The Position

The Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) is seeking a Bilingual Outreach Coordinator for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) to implement the SNAP Outreach program in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem Counties. FBSJ has been a pillar of hope and support for these counties since 1985, distributing safe and healthy food, offering nutrition and wellness courses, and partnering with local agencies on sustainable programs to empower neighbors. In 2024, FBSJ distributed over 19.5 million meals and aims to expand its commitment to a healthier, hunger-free South Jersey. The organization is dedicated to building community awareness and creating an efficient emergency food distribution network to eliminate hunger.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (written and spoken) required
  • Clean driver’s license required
  • Ability to work off-site at outdoor outreach events required
  • Ability to carry and transport equipment and supplies required
  • Experience working with diverse groups required
  • Highly organized, flexible, adaptable, and able to multi-task
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed during a 35-hour work week
  • Ability to work outside in all seasons
  • Ability to travel throughout Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem counties to promote SNAP and provide SNAP application assistance.
  • Independent worker, self-starter and works well with a team and on their own
  • Excellent proficiency in using Zoom, Teams, and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Detail oriented, excellent record keeping and time management skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Comfortable working with and can effectively communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and opinions
  • Ability to safely transfer 35 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in direct service within social or human service organizations preferred
  • Experience working in food insecurity or related non-profit environment preferred
  • Experience working in communication, telemarketing, or marketing preferred
  • Volunteer management experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide information about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and offer application assistance to individuals and families.
  • Assist clients individually with pre-screening, SNAP application submission, document submission, and answer questions related to SNAP.
  • Develop and deliver presentations about SNAP to a variety of audiences to promote and inform the community about SNAP.
  • Manage incoming calls by providing information on SNAP and other food assistance programs as needed.
  • Coordinate SNAP outreach services with related Food Bank of South Jersey programs and other partner efforts.
  • Represent the Food Bank of South Jersey at community meetings and events through networking, public relations, and speaking engagements as needed.
  • Enter and track data for NJ SNAP monthly reporting.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings conducted by NJ SNAP.
  • Coordinate regularly with Marketing, Communications, and Advocacy teams to ensure SNAP Outreach work is effectively promoted.
  • Organize records, files, and spreadsheets on the SNAP program and related projects as needed.
  • Adhere to protocols regarding security and confidentiality to protect personal client information.
  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of the SNAP application process.
  • Other duties as assigned.
