About The Position

The Theatre department is hiring for multiple positions in various roles. These roles are designed for HSU students and offer opportunities to gain experience in different aspects of theatre production and promotion.

Requirements

  • Must be an HSU student.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, writing and proofreading skills, strong interpersonal skills and should be a self-starter and able to work with or without supervision.
  • Must be punctual and able to follow and complete a weekly checklist.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, strong writing skills, some video and editing skills, strong interpersonal skills and should be a self-starter, punctual, able to meet deadlines, and work without supervision.
  • Must be able to work at least 2-3 hrs. at a time.
  • Sewing skills are a plus.
  • Must have strong organizational and creative skills and must be a self-starter and able to work with or without supervision.

  • Experience with computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.

Responsibilities

  • Contact interested, potential theatre students via email or phone; check Slate inquiries and admits weekly; set up campus theatre visits; work with HSU recruiting for visits; assist with program auditions; meet and greet new students and families at shows; provide tours of the theatre; attend state-wide recruiting events, when possible; assist with preview events.
  • Maintain a weekly, detailed calendar of promotion duties for all shows of the 2024-25 season; create show collages after each production; prepare lobby with special displays for select productions; update and change outdoor marquee weekly; create a Behind the Footlights feature or other promotional features for each show of our 2024-25 season; add to the HSU Facebook page and Instagram accounts on a regular basis; weekly emails to HSU Marketing Director, Communications Director, Photography Director, and Brand contact. Create and send promotional slides for upcoming shows to tv monitor contacts across campus. Responsible for posters being placed on campus AND around Abilene at designated locations. Responsible for archiving past productions, digitally and with hard copies.
  • Arranging and re-shelving costumes; organizing costumes, fabric, jewelry, accessories; repairing garments; assisting with building costumes (supervised); checking and maintaining inventory, keeping costume shop neat, straight, and clean.
  • Maintaining box office records, office work, experience with computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher; maintain and update mailing lists, customer service, ticket sales, creating playbills for each play, creating QR coded programs, preparing and running the box office for each production, cleaning/tidying up the office and theatre.
  • Organize and maintain 2 prop rooms and 1 soft goods room; basic repair of props; keep storage spaces neat and clean; re-shelve props; inventory; assist in monitoring the check in and out system; assist prop crew and set crew when necessary.
  • Assist with scenic construction, painting, loading in and out, shop and storage maintenance and inventory, and some theatrical lighting work. Work with power tools and other theatrical equipment with training and supervision.
