About The Position

The HS Jazz Band Director conducts and administers rehearsals and performances of a high school jazz band. The position includes organizing concerts and other events, supporting district high school jazz activities, and coordinating event logistics and required reports with school and district staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Music Education.
• Experience with a secondary school jazz ensemble; student teaching experience is acceptable.
• Working knowledge of all instruments used in a traditional jazz ensemble.

Nice To Haves

• Experience conducting a secondary school jazz ensemble.
• Knowledge of jazz and improvisation pedagogy.
• Ability to demonstrate all instruments in the ensemble as needed.

Responsibilities

• Conduct at least three jazz band concerts during the school year, as well as other applicable events.
• Support and attend all district high school jazz events.
• Attend and participate in contests, festivals, and other events designated by the curriculum coordinator.
• Organize transportation for events as necessary.
• Acquire concert space and necessary performance resources, such as microphones, chairs, and stands.
• Submit concert dates to the curriculum coordinator for approval in coordination with building administration by the October 15 deadline.
• Submit reports and activity checklists to building and district administration as requested.
• Attend work promptly and regularly.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.
• Attend district-wide meetings as requested.
