About The Position

The High School Bible teacher serves as a Christ-centered educator who supports the mission of La Sierra Academy by providing high-quality Bible instruction, fostering student growth, and contributing to a safe, supportive, and collaborative learning environment. The teacher’s primary responsibility is to provide Bible instruction to high school students, with the possibility of teaching junior high Bible classes based on school need. The teacher demonstrates strong knowledge of curriculum, classroom management, and effective instructional practices aligned with standards-based education and the mission of Seventh-day Adventist education. This teacher is expected to model Christian values in word and action, work collaboratively with colleagues through Professional Learning Communities, and support the spiritual, academic, social, and physical development of students. In addition to classroom teaching responsibilities, the teacher will support the chaplain with spiritual programming, worship experiences, chapel-related responsibilities, student spiritual life activities, and other duties as needed. The teacher must also be trained or be willing to be trained in Bible Encounters for both Elementary and Secondary Bible instruction and be willing to implement the curriculum with fidelity.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, religion, theology, or a related field.
  • Training in Bible Encounters for Elementary and Secondary Bible is required or must be completed as directed by administration.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, curriculum guides, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to create routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, employees, and school administration.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Must possess skills in working with culturally and ethnically diverse groups.
  • Must possess strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate adaptability, professionalism, spiritual maturity, and the ability to respond creatively to setbacks and obstacles.
  • Must have personal time management skills and motivation to work toward school-wide goals.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear and smell.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Secondary teaching experience preferred.
  • NAD Teacher Certification or eligibility preferred, with endorsement in the relevant subject area.

Responsibilities

  • Teach high school Bible classes as the primary teaching responsibility.
  • Teach junior high Bible classes as needed, based on school need, certification, experience, and administrative assignment.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that reflect a Biblical worldview, support Seventh-day Adventist education, and meet curriculum standards.
  • Complete required training in Bible Encounters for both Elementary and Secondary Bible and implement the curriculum appropriately in assigned Bible classes.
  • Support the chaplain with chapel programming, worship services, spiritual emphasis activities, student spiritual life events, and other chaplain-related duties as needed.
  • Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities to collaborate with colleagues around student learning, analyze data, strengthen instruction, and support consistent standards-based teaching and assessment practices.
  • Contribute to a safe, supportive, and highly collaborative school culture by building positive relationships with students and colleagues, upholding shared expectations, and engaging in continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter content and follow adopted curriculum using a variety of instructional strategies and materials.
  • Monitor and assess student learning using multiple tools of assessment, including formative, summative, and standardized measures when applicable, and use results to guide instruction.
  • Engage and support all students in learning by setting goals, facilitating meaningful learning experiences, and encouraging problem solving, critical thinking, and spiritual reflection.
  • Create and maintain an effective learning environment that is fair, respectful, Christ- centered, intellectually engaging, and conducive to moral and spiritual development.
  • Establish and maintain clear standards for student behavior.
  • Maintain a physical classroom environment that is clean, safe, orderly, and conducive to learning.
  • Communicate student progress with students and parents/guardians in a timely manner, including keeping grades current through the electronic grade-book.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential student records.
  • Demonstrate a lifestyle consistent with Seventh-day Adventist standards and continue developing as a Christian professional educator.
  • Collaborate with administration, faculty, and staff to create a safe, respectful, and Christ- centered learning environment.
  • Serve as a spiritual role model and actively participate in worship services, faculty worships, chapels, and other required spiritual life activities.
  • Fulfill assigned adjunct and sponsorship duties, including supervision, class sponsorship, club sponsorship, student activities, trips, faculty meetings, and other responsibilities as assigned.
