About The Position

Action Pact is a community action agency dedicated to improving lives and communities for over 50 years. We are seeking a full-time Head Start Teacher to create a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment for children. This role involves planning and implementing early childhood development learning experiences in an assigned classroom.

Requirements

  • A minimum AA in Early Childhood Education or related field is required.
  • BA preferred.
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement early childhood development learning experiences and activities.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of an assigned classroom.
  • Supervise assigned Teacher Assistants and classroom volunteers.
  • Implement a curriculum designed to improve children's physical abilities, social/emotional development, and mental skills.
  • Supervise, monitor, and observe each child, making recommendations for individual educational plans.
  • Coordinate the activities of volunteers and aides.
  • Work closely with staff professionals in carrying out parent involvement activities.
  • Keep written reports and records of health, attendance, problems, and progress of each child.
  • Participate in conferences with parents and other staff professionals.
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, in-service training sessions, and parent meetings as required.
  • Conduct a minimum of two home visits per year for each child and assist in planning for child development outside the classroom.
  • Develop daily lesson plans that reflect the assigned curriculum, are age-appropriate, and include all Head Start performance standards.
  • Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem-solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice-making.
  • Ask open-ended questions and listen respectfully to children's responses.
  • Discuss each child's abilities and limitations, demonstrating thorough knowledge of each child.
  • Demonstrate appropriate classroom management techniques, including establishing and maintaining organization and dealing with disruptions.
  • Set up and organize the classroom in a neat and orderly manner, establishing a climate conducive to learning.
  • Observe, assess, and record the behavior of all children assigned to the classroom.
  • Advise parents of each child's progress and/or problems, documenting all contacts and efforts.
  • Be courteous and receptive to all Head Start parents, encouraging participation in their child's development.
  • Supervise the arrival and departure of children.
  • Establish, utilize, and identify a variety of interest areas, organizing space, equipment, and supplies.
  • Utilize at least one assessment tool appropriate to the age(s) of the children on a regular basis.
  • Ensure records reflect assessment tool use and that program activities are planned based on ongoing assessment.
  • Maintain ongoing observations, recordings, and evaluations of each child's growth and development in their file.
  • Develop and implement an individual education program (IEP) for each child with an identified disability, in conjunction with Education and Disabilities Specialists.
  • Conduct daily headcounts and complete daily attendance records.
  • Inventory, request, and store adequate and appropriate classroom materials and supplies.
  • Complete required reports for home visits.
  • Assess and evaluate assigned Teacher Assistants annually in writing.
  • Promote parent and community volunteers and actively seek in-kind donations.
  • Ensure proper documentation of services is accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations.
  • Monitor, document, and follow procedures for reporting suspected child abuse.
  • Adhere to the confidentiality policy at all times.
  • Maintain attendance rosters with noted times for late arrivals or early departures.
  • Maintain an up-to-date portfolio for each child as part of their assessment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
