About The Position

Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington, invites applications for a Human Resources Internship in the college’s Human Resources/Payroll Department. This internship is designed for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in human resources while supporting key HR functions in a dynamic and inclusive workplace. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources & Equity, the HR Intern will gain hands-on experience in various aspects of human resources, including recruitment, onboarding, employee evaluations, and compliance. This internship provides an opportunity to develop professional knowledge and expertise in HR functions while contributing to key projects that support the department’s goals. The intern will assist in administrative tasks, data management, and policy research, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in HR operations. This role is ideal for someone looking to gain practical HR experience in a professional setting. Priority consideration will be given to applicants whose complete application has been received by July 18, 2025. The position is expected to begin in Fall Quarter 2025. Requirements

  • Enrolled in BAS-AM program
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to stay organized.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team or independently.
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, with a strong academic standing.
  • Experience in customer service, office, or administrative positions
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new technology and software.
  • Knowledge of basic HR concepts
  • Interest in a career in Human Resources with a desire to grow professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with job postings and reviewing applications.
  • Help coordinate interview schedules and candidate communication.
  • Support the onboarding process, including preparing new hire paperwork and setting up employee files.
  • Maintain and update HR databases and personnel records.
  • Ensure confidentiality and accuracy in handling sensitive employee information.
  • Track and monitor employee information changes, such as promotions, transfers, and leave requests, ensuring records are updated in a timely manner.
  • Assist with digitizing HR documents.
  • Conduct research on HR trends and best practices.
  • Contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
  • Assist with special HR projects, such as process improvements.
  • Answer HR-related inquiries and provide customer service to employees.
  • Assist with scheduling meetings and taking meeting notes.
  • Prepare HR communications.
