About The Position

Welby Health is a tech-enabled chronic care management company. This role plays a key part in managing the day-to-day operations of the People team, ensuring consistent and reliable execution of core HR processes. The HR Generalist will partner closely with the People Operations Manager, who provides direction and policy guidance. This position supports employees by managing onboarding, maintaining accurate records, coordinating payroll inputs, responding to employee inquiries, and ensuring timely follow-ups. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and capable of taking ownership.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of HR experience in a generalist, coordinator, or people operations role.
  • Working knowledge of California employment basics: wage and hour, paid sick leave, final pay rules, and required notices.
  • Experience with an HRIS and comfort learning new systems quickly.
  • High discretion with confidential information.
  • Organized and reliable.

  • Located in San Diego County and able to work from our Carlsbad office on scheduled in-office days.

  • Experience in healthcare or another regulated, license-tracked industry.
  • Multi-state HR experience.
  • Recruiting coordination experience.

Responsibilities

  • Run the full new hire process: offer letter logistics, background checks, I-9 and E-Verify, first-day setup, and onboarding checklists for both clinical and corporate hires.
  • Coordinate offboarding: final pay timing per state requirements, equipment return, system access removal, and exit logistics.
  • Keep onboarding materials and checklists up to date as the company evolves.
  • Maintain accurate employee records in the HRIS and with our PEO, including new hires, changes, and terminations.
  • Track licenses and certifications for clinical staff, required training, handbook acknowledgments, and posting requirements.
  • Support compliance basics for a multi-state healthcare employer, escalating anything unusual to the People Operations Manager.
  • Assist with preparing and reviewing payroll inputs each cycle, working directly with our PEO, and catching errors before they hit paychecks.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee benefits questions, routing to the PEO or People Operations Manager where appropriate.
  • Support open enrollment, benefits changes, and leave-related paperwork.
  • Work with the People Operations Manager to confirm job descriptions, post open roles, manage the applicant pipeline, and keep postings current.
  • Schedule interviews and keep candidates moving.
  • Handle offer logistics and hand off cleanly to onboarding.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for day-to-day employee questions and requests.
  • Support company events, recognition, all-hands logistics, and Care Plan culture programs.
  • Help the People Operations Manager with projects as they come up.
