About The Position

The School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology, is looking for a Human Resources Generalist at the rank of Senior Professional who is responsible for supporting the human resources needs and functions of the Department’s Pediatric Division personnel. The position will work alongside two other HR Generalists who support other Departmental units. The HR Generalists work as part of the Department of Anesthesiology’s People Operations Team and are expected to provide cross-team coverage across Human Resources, Payroll & Compensation, and Faculty Affairs on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, public policy, business, higher education administration, social sciences, behavioral sciences, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in human resources.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of laws, rules, and regulations in order to exercise good judgment in applying them to human resource challenges.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state labor laws, specifically regarding ADA, FMLA, and Colorado FAMLI guidelines.
  • High technical agility; ability to learn, adapt to, and manipulate new software platforms (specifically Smartsheet) quickly to build trackers, manage dashboards, and automate workflows.
  • Knowledge of the professional standards, concepts, and practices of recruitment and selection, employee relations, or organizational development and human resource policy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, including public speaking.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality while working with sensitive information.
  • Attention to detail when dealing with complex processes
  • Ability to take direction and also use independent judgment.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in the interpretation and application of policies, procedures, and rules.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of professional experience executing core HR processes, including but not limited to: benefits administration, talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, or records management.
  • Two (2) years of experience utilizing PeopleSoft HCM or similar HR Management software.
  • Demonstrated experience processing and administering FMLA, ADA accommodations, and state-specific leave programs (experience with Colorado FAMLI strongly preferred).
  • Advanced proficiency or direct experience with Smartsheet (or a proven track record of rapidly mastering complex project management/workflow automation software).
  • Experience in a higher education or healthcare setting.
  • Experience with University of Colorado policies, Regents Rules, and School policies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary Pediatric Division subject matter expert for all FMLA, Colorado FAMLI, and ADA accommodation requests.
  • Initiate compliance paperwork with HR Shared Services (HRSS) and manage accommodations from request through completion.
  • Utilize Smartsheet templates to track, audit, and monitor FMLA, FAMLI, and overall leave usage in strict alignment with Federal, State, and University laws.
  • Review leave balances monthly to provide critical updates to the Payroll team and division leadership regarding operational and payroll impacts.
  • Partner with HRSS to process all Pediatric Division transactions, including position creation, offers, promotions, terminations, and FTE changes.
  • Review and approve monthly leave transactions for division faculty and staff, enforcing compliance through rigorous leave reconciliation processes.
  • Collaborate with the Payroll & Compensation Specialist to upload, reconcile, and approve variable pay before CU Medicine and School of Medicine deadlines.
  • Execute and audit the annual salary-setting process and maintain accurate tracking of faculty administrative roles and stipends.
  • Manage full-cycle staff recruitment for the Pediatric Division, including drafting job descriptions and leading search committees.
  • Coordinate comprehensive onboarding for new division staff and oversee personnel file maintenance in accordance with campus standards.
  • Partner with Faculty Affairs teams to execute pediatric faculty recruitment, finalize letters of offer, and manage onboarding workflows.
  • Track hospital and CU Medicine credentialing via Smartsheet to ensure timely starts for incoming pediatric faculty.
