About The Position

University Human Resources Operations is seeking a detail-oriented and service-driven HR Generalist to join our team. This position is a critical front-line resource, providing comprehensive HR customer service and operational support to campus HR Analysts, employees, and other stakeholders. The HR Generalist responds to inquiries across a wide range of human resources functions, including benefits, recruitment, training, HR transactions, and general HR policies and procedures. In this role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for campus users, providing guidance, troubleshooting support, and process navigation related to core HR systems and procedures. This role involves troubleshooting, testing, and partnering with HR and Workday teams to resolve complex issues. Systems include ServiceNow, Workday, State of Maryland Systems, and other campus-based systems. Success in this role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, navigate and understand complex systems, communicate clearly and empathetically, adapt quickly to changes, and provide accurate and timely support. A strong customer service mindset and the ability to translate complex HR concepts into clear guidance are essential. This role plays a key part in delivering responsive, knowledgeable, and effective HR services to the campus community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of professional human resources experience.
  • Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Skill in troubleshooting system errors.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
  • Ability to analyze situations and determine the best recourse for response.

  • Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a first point of contact for campus customers by responding to routine HR inquiries via phone, email, and/or ticketing system, providing timely and courteous customer service.
  • Provide basic HR support across a range of functional areas, including benefits, recruitment, onboarding, training, payroll, and general HR policies and procedures.
  • Perform standard HR transactions and data entry using core HR systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established processes.
  • Provide guidance to campus users on routine HR processes and system navigation, using job aids, documentation, and established procedures.
  • Research and respond to common HR questions using available resources and knowledge base materials; escalate non-routine or complex issues to appropriate HR staff as needed.
  • Support the HR Generalist team during peak service periods by assisting with workload volume and maintaining service levels.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information and adhere to university policies, procedures, and data security requirements.
