About The Position

This role provides professional support in areas of Talent Acquisition, Policy Interpretation, Classification and Compensation. The HR Consultant will review intake forms and job descriptions for appropriate classification, assist supervisors in setting salaries, and perform other duties as assigned. Key responsibilities include managing performance management workflows, providing information on policies and procedures, developing job postings, screening applications, participating in recruitment events, and reviewing employment recommendations for compliance. The role also involves conducting pre-employment reference and employment verifications and attending statewide meetings to stay informed and share information.

Requirements

  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to collect, assemble, process and file information using manual and automated systems.
  • Skill in operating office equipment and a variety of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Skill in providing good customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences and to make presentations and conduct meetings.
  • Knowledge of HR practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of personnel administration.

  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Human Resources or related field desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform special duties as assigned.
  • Provide professional support in areas of Talent Acquisition, Policy Interpretation, Classification and Compensation.
  • Review intake forms and job and position descriptions for appropriate classification.
  • Assist supervisors in setting salaries during the hiring process and during agency transfers and promotions.
  • Assist employees and supervisor in navigating the performance management workflows in MyCareerConnect.
  • Provide general information regarding policies and procedures to VDOT employees and managers, ensuring compliance is met in accordance with federal, state and agency laws and regulations.
  • Develop job postings through the review of Position Descriptions in consultation with hiring managers.
  • Screen applications to apply professional and legal standards effectively and efficiently to the talent acquisition process.
  • Participate on interview selection panels, career fairs and recruitment events to promote VDOT.
  • Review final employment recommendations ensuring clear justification for hire and compliance with EO and AA program and objectives.
  • Conduct and process all pre-employment references and employment verifications.
  • Attend statewide meetings to stay abreast of current issues and share information with other HR staff.
