About The Position

The Human Resource Assistant will perform administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the organization's human resource department.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.
  • 2 years of experience as an HR assistant (essential).
  • Exposure to labor law and employment equity regulations.
  • Effective HR administration and people management skills.
  • Exposure to payroll practices.
  • Full understanding of HR functions and best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Works well under pressure and meets tight deadlines.
  • Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office, and related business and communication tools.
  • Fantastic organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to accurately follow instructions.
  • Experience with ADP (HRIS)

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Provides clerical support to the HR department.
  • May assist with payroll functions including processing, answering employee questions, fixing processing errors, and distributing checks.
  • Acts as a liaison between the organization and external benefits providers and vendors, which may include health, disability, and retirement plan providers.
  • Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
  • Responsible for entering employee data into the time and attendance system and assisting with corrections or adjustments as needed.
  • Manage the uploading of disciplinary files, submission of terminations, and processing of new hires within ADP.
  • Ensure accuracy in payroll by verifying direct deposit and payroll information for all employees.
  • Manage the submission of garnishments and other payroll-related compliance activities.
  • Compile evidence and documentation related to disciplinary actions and other relevant employee matters to support unemployment claims.
  • Participate in unemployment hearings as needed, and ensure all necessary information is filed.
  • Oversee the timely and accurate enrollment and unenrollment of employees in benefit programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
