About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing existing wiring and electrical circuits, including installing wiring and fixtures, and locating power failures and short circuits. The role also involves repairing and/or replacing plumbing systems and their components, such as faucets, flush valves, urinals, and water closets. Additionally, the Generalist performs skilled work in repairing furniture, cabinets, windows, screens, floors, ceilings, stairs, structures, and equipment. This includes installing ceiling tiles and grid, flooring (vinyl sheeting and tile), wall base, chair rails, and molding. Renovation work and repairs to existing structures, such as installing or relocating doors, windows, walls, and flooring, are also key responsibilities. The role requires performing maintenance on interior and exterior walls and floors with masonry materials, and repairing, replacing, and installing ceramic tile. Preventive inspections of buildings and equipment are conducted monthly, with generated preventive maintenance reports. The position also includes cleaning various areas such as halls, offices, shops, restrooms, conference rooms, labs, elevators, and stairwells, as well as waste and recycle bins, water fountains, and door matting, and spot washing walls, doors, and partitions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two to four years of relevant experience
  • Class E Driver’s License
  • Criminal background check
  • Physical examination

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades
  • Working knowledge of computers and asset management systems.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the skilled building trades, mechanical, and repair work, safety procedures and requirements in maintenance and repair work.
  • Skilled in hand tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled trade functions, read blueprints and schematic drawings, follow verbal and written instruction, ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments, and work cooperatively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair existing wiring and electrical circuits.
  • Install wiring and fixtures.
  • Locate correct power failures and short circuits.
  • Repair and/or replace plumbing systems or the components thereof as assigned.
  • Repair or replace worn or damaged faucets, flush valves, urinals and water closets.
  • Perform skills work in repair to furniture, cabinets, windows, screens, floors, ceiling, stairs, structures, equipment and all related work.
  • Install ceiling tiles and grid.
  • Install flooring (vinyl sheeting and tile), wall base, chair rails, molding around doors, windows, crown molding, etc.
  • Perform renovation work and repairs to existing structures (installing or relocating doors, windows, walls, flooring, etc.).
  • Install and repair doors, mortise locks, hinges, exit devices, door closures, door vents, glass door panels, etc.
  • Perform maintenance as needed to the interior and exterior walls and floors with the proper masonry materials.
  • Repair, replace and install ceramic tile.
  • Perform preventive inspections on all buildings, equipment, entrance doors, etc.
  • Generate monthly preventive maintenance reports.
  • Clean halls, offices, shops, restrooms, conference rooms, lab, elevators, stairwells, etc.
  • Sweep, dust, dust mop, wet mop, spot mop, employ and clean waste and recycle bins, clean water fountains, door matting, and spot wash and clean walls, doors and partitions.
