HP-IH Technician

Centrus Energy•Piketon, OH

About The Position

The Health Physics-Industrial Hygiene (HPIH) Technician works under general supervision and performs assigned Radiation Protection and Industrial Hygiene Program functions. The role involves monitoring and applying controls and processes to measure and control radiological, chemical, biological, and physical hazards, while ensuring radiation-generating materials and equipment comply with applicable procedures, policies, safety guidelines, managerial direction, and regulatory requirements. The technician supports Health Physics and Industrial Hygiene programs by conducting and documenting hazard surveys, collecting and recording measurements, converting raw readings into meaningful units, and responding appropriately when conditions fall outside established safety limits. The position may require shift work and/or extended hours. A successful candidate must pass the required math/science assessment, core exams, and on-the-job training, and must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Q-level security clearance. Employment requires pre-employment background and drug checks; employees in roles requiring clearance are also subject to applicable random and incident-related drug testing and federal background investigations.

  • Collect and record data using Health Physics and Industrial Hygiene equipment to monitor personnel and work areas for hazards.
  • Use math and tools such as spreadsheets to convert survey readings into meaningful units, including beta dose rates, contamination levels, airborne concentrations, and derived air concentration percentages.
  • Recognize and take appropriate action when radiological or industrial hygiene conditions are outside the predefined safety envelope or when unanticipated situations arise.
