About The Position

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is a nonprofit community development organization and settlement house serving the East New York neighborhood in Brooklyn. Our agency sponsors high-quality childcare and youth development, urban agriculture, public health, community organizing, college success, community development, housing counseling, and economic development projects and programs. We serve 20,000 neighborhood residents annually, and our budget includes a healthy mix of government, foundation, and corporate grants as well as private donor support. We seek a Part-Time Housing Counseling Assistant to support our Homeowner Services in East New York.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Business, Urban Planning, Social Work or related field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Team player, quick learner, and able to work independently.
  • Computer literate — knowledge of design programs helpful.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach and promote housing counseling services to homeowners through various channels, including calls, email blasts, paper mailings, distributing flyers, presentations and tabling at community events.
  • Provide individualized support to homeowners, documented through sign-in sheets, intake forms, and referrals.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the Housing Counselors, e.g., scanning documents, filing materials, making follow-up calls, etc.
  • Track and follow up with program participants who have missed appointments or have been uncommunicative.
  • Help screen and conduct intake activities with senior homeowners for retrofit/repair programs to help owners in reducing housing costs and providing financial education.
  • Make referrals to other relevant services offered in-house and externally.
  • Monitor and document client progress toward improved housing and financial outcomes.
  • Accurately input, track, and report client data using CounselorMax, Salesforce, and internal tracking tools.
  • Maintain complete and organized program files, and ensure timely reporting to funders and CHLDC leadership.
  • Submit monthly and biweekly reports regarding progress on tasks and objectives.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity, leadership development, community organizing, and systemic change.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Homeowner Services.
