About The Position

Tri-County Community Action Agency, Inc. (TCCAA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated for over 50 years to making a positive difference in the lives of those experiencing hardships. The agency consists of multiple programs that are created to empower people in Halifax, Charlotte and Mecklenburg Counties of Southside Virginia. Through collaborative efforts, engaged staff and partnerships, Tri-County is able to further our mission to eliminate the violence of poverty through advocacy, empowerment and self-sufficiency.

Requirements

High level of professionalism.
Thorough knowledge of computer systems and use of the Internet in accessing client data and conducting client-related research.
Valid driver's record.
Knowledge of the housing first approach and emphasize stable, permanent housing as a primary strategy for ending homelessness.
Knowledge of outreach methods, interviewing skills, assessment techniques, and provision of emergency services and referrals.
Knowledge of a broad range of social service and/or administrative aptitude.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and commitment to advocate for homeless individuals/ families.
Possess a thorough understanding and empathy for all persons in need.

Working with homeless individuals/families and housing them as soon as possible and to provide a connection to community based supports that assist with sustainability.

Responsibilities

Screen homeless clients seeking shelter using housing first assistance approach (assessments and intake applications).
Determine program eligibility (prevention, diversion, referrals, etc.).
Identify the appropriate community resources that will assist with access and sustaining permanent rental housing as quickly as possible.
Provide information, diversion, referral services and/or shelter.
Maintain program record-keeping (case notes, HMIS, CAP60, etc.).
Use the Voluntary Services model for all clients seeking services.
Meet monthly goals.
Exercise good judgment and decision-making that best utilizes Agency resources to benefit clients.
Coordinate with a wide range of service organizations that promote self-sufficiency goals, community enhancement, and overall empowerment principles.
