About The Position

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for maintaining quality standards established by the Executive Housekeeper, overseeing all activities of employees in their assigned area, and supervising the daily cleaning and maintenance of rooms, hallways, and linen rooms. This role also involves assisting with payroll tracking, attendance, productivity, inventory management, handling phone calls, and managing the lost and found. The supervisor will conduct training and provide supervision for Room Attendants and House Persons, ensuring the cleanliness and quality assurance of all hotel/tower rooms.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year previous supervisory experience preferably in a hotel or resort setting.
  • At least 6 months previous housekeeping experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a current valid Michigan drivers license and be insurable under the company’s plan.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
  • Ability to train and supervise others in job procedures.
  • Good guest service skills as there will be frequent contact with other employees and guests.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions as well as openly support decisions/direction from GTRS management.
  • Excellent multi-tasking, organization, and communication skills.
  • Must project a positive attitude at all times.
  • Must enjoy and work well with others.
  • Must possess excellent time management skills and be comfortable with meeting firm deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain levels of quality as established by the Executive Housekeeper.
  • Oversee all activities of employees in assigned area.
  • Supervise the daily cleaning and maintenance of rooms, hallways, and linen rooms.
  • Assist in daily payroll tracking, attendance, productivity, inventory management, phone calls, and the lost and found.
  • Conduct training and supervision of Room Attendants and House Persons.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all hotel/tower rooms as well as detail and quality assurance through all facets of housekeeping.
  • Monitor OSHA standards and promote a safe environment for all housekeeping staff, including partaking in monthly safety training.
  • Ensure all correct procedures are followed regarding Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Maintain accurate records of all rooms that are cleaned and file appropriately.
  • Complete and submit any required reports or paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Ensure that all maintenance problems are called in through dispatch in the office and turned in to Engineering to be completed in a timely fashion.
  • Verify that housekeeping carts and linen closets are fully stocked and cleaned.
  • Help in any area of housekeeping as needed.
  • Ensure that all public space in assigned areas are maintained to department standards.
  • Thoroughly inspect each room after Room Attendants have cleaned them, being sure rooms are cleaned to standard before releasing them to the Front Desk (including VIP rooms).
  • Consistently present a professional image to Grand Traverse Resort and Spa (GTRS) staff and its guests.
  • Assist in answering incoming calls and directing to the proper areas, and to keep an accurate phone log of all calls to insure each duty is taken care of properly.
  • Assist in control of Lost and Found/Uniform room.
  • Ensure that the master keys, radios and pagers are returned to the proper areas and investigate if any are missing.
  • Maintain the files and regulations of GTRS housekeeping department.
  • Maintain and support high morale of the House Persons and Room Attendants.
  • Ensure that all Room Attendants and House Persons are meeting and exceeding GTRS standards.
  • Assist the Executive Housekeeper with the creation and issuance of performance evaluations.
  • Completely monitor employee training and conduct.
  • Assist Training Manager and Executive Housekeeper assess training needs for your department.
  • Ensure that all assigned employees comply with Personal Appearance Standards.
  • Comply with the GTRS Open Door Policy and assist with progressive counseling procedures.
  • Understand and abide by environmental practices of the resort. (Green mission statement, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Plan, supervise, and be accountable for all employees’ daily activities during assigned shift.
  • Motivate, Evaluate, Delegate, Counsel, Discipline and Direct employees.
