About The Position

Valleyview Home, a 136-bed long-term care facility operated by the City of St. Thomas, is seeking a Housekeeping / Laundry Worker. This Unifor position, under the general supervision of the Environmental Supervisor, is responsible for providing housekeeping and laundry services within the Home, promoting its philosophy and objectives. The role involves ensuring a clean and safe environment for residents, maintaining resident clothing, and adhering to all safety and security procedures.

Requirements

Minimum Secondary School graduation diploma together with related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Must be willing to place the comfort, happiness and well being of the residents of the Home above personal consideration.
Successful completion of a police record check with vulnerable sector clearance.
Satisfactory TB documentation.
Must make yourself available for a minimum of eleven shifts in a four week period.

Nice To Haves

Experience in similar duties in a geriatric setting is an asset.

Responsibilities

Performs varied tasks to ensure the provision of the Home's housekeeping program for resident’s rooms, including cleaning, dusting, and wet mopping floors, walls, windows, woodwork, furnishings, light fixtures, and washrooms.
Carbolizes beds when requested or when a resident moves.
Cleans dining rooms and serveries following meals.
Participates in the inventory of resident’s clothing, labelling same and tracing lost articles.
Verbally communicates and interacts with residents, supervisors, co-workers, family members, visitors, and other departments in a pleasant, courteous, respectful, and understanding manner, maintaining resident information confidentiality.
Has good knowledge of and complies with Fire and Evacuation procedures and all procedures designed to ensure the security and protection of the residents.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Performs technical tasks to ensure washing and drying of clothing is completed properly.
Sorts dried clothing and linens for folding.
Folds linen and clothing as per instructions.
Sorts and weighs the Home and resident’s laundry for washing.
Hangs all cleaned resident clothing in proper place on clothing racks.
Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations, and City policies.
Uses or wears the equipment, protective devices, or clothing that the City requires.
Reports the absence or defect of any equipment or protective device that may endanger themselves or another worker to their supervisor.
Reports any contravention of the Act, the regulations, or the existence of any hazard to their supervisor.
Does not remove or make ineffective any protective device without providing an adequate temporary protective device and replaces it immediately when the need has ceased.
Does not use or operate any equipment, machine, device, or thing or work in a manner that may endanger themselves or any other worker.
Does not engage in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running, or rough and boisterous conduct.
