About The Position

The Housekeeper works at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute, a 72-bed Joint Commission-accredited state mental health facility in Danville, Virginia. The role maintains daily sanitation standards and provides a clean, safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Work includes cleaning, vacuuming, floor buffing, dusting, emptying trash cans, sweeping, and supplying bathrooms. The position requires working in a fast-paced behavioral health environment, learning and following directions, and completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision after training.

Requirements

• Must be able to read and follow written instructions.
• Current CHEST certification or the ability to become CHEST certified within one year of employment is required.

Nice To Haves

• Experience as a housekeeper in a psychiatric healthcare facility, acute care, long-term care, or correctional setting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain daily sanitation standards in assigned areas.
• Clean bathrooms, patient rooms, nursing areas, and other spaces.
• Perform housekeeping tasks including vacuuming, floor buffing, dusting, emptying trash cans, and sweeping.
• Supply bathrooms.
• Complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision after receiving training.
