About The Position

The Housekeeping Assistant ensures the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public
  • Must possess the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel
  • Must be able to summarize and relate information
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination
  • Must be able to relate to and work with persons who exhibit emotional instability, confusion, or at times, hostility
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to carry such weight a minimum distance of 25 feet; using a mechanical device, must regularly be able to push, pull, or move weight in excess of 50 pounds a distance of 300 feet
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations

Responsibilities

  • Following cleaning schedules, adjusting as necessary for resident-specific needs, to including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and disinfecting
  • Coordinating daily housekeeping services with nursing services
  • Performing routine and terminal isolation procedures according to infection control practices
  • Cleaning assigned work areas and equipment, properly storing equipment, tools, and supplies
  • Discarding infectious waste into appropriate containers
  • Following proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used for cleaning
  • Reporting missing or improperly labeled containers of hazardous chemicals
  • Following policies governing the use and disposal of personal protective equipment, supplies, and infectious waste
  • Disposing of refuse in accordance with established sanitation procedures
  • Maintaining a safe environment for all residents and staff
