About The Position

The Housekeeper is responsible for cleaning assigned areas of the hospital and maintaining the hospital in a sanitary, orderly, and attractive condition. This role involves routine decision-making regarding cleaning needs in the absence of the Manager of Environmental Services. The position requires knowledge of safety procedures, waste and infectious waste handling, and the proper use of personal protective equipment. Unusual working conditions include working with approved cleaning chemicals and potential exposure to blood and body fluids.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

  • Knowledge of proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work with approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Awareness of risk of blood, body fluid contamination.

  • Hospital or Janitorial Cleaning experience.

Responsibilities

  • Sanitize all respective areas of the hospital, including appropriately using cleaning solutions, cleaning fixtures, and restocking supplies daily.
  • Sanitize all patient areas of the hospital, including cleaning beds on dismissals, spot washing windows and walls, following a seven-step cleaning method, restocking supplies, checking sharp containers, and wiping down surfaces daily.
  • Sanitize all ancillary areas of the hospital, including wiping down exam beds, following a seven-step cleaning method, sanitizing all surfaces, spot washing windows, walls, and doors, restocking supplies, checking sharp containers, and performing detail cleaning monthly.
  • Collect and dispose of trash in all areas of the hospital, including pulling trash, wiping containers, replacing liners, and transporting trash in closed containers daily.
  • Collect, dispose, and transport bio-hazardous waste in the hospital, using proper personal protective equipment, sanitizing containers, and transporting in closed containers daily.
  • Restock and clean carts, including dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming carpets and mats, spot cleaning carpets, and cleaning baseboards and corners daily.
  • Properly maintain equipment by restocking carts with needed supplies and cleaning carts at the end of each shift daily.
  • Perform evening and weekend shift responsibilities as assigned, including job verification completions, ensuring supply restock in the EVS storeroom, communicating with nursing to ensure cleaning requests are completed on time, and performing additional tasks related to EVS department operations.
