About The Position

The Housekeeper provides campus cleaning and minor maintenance services to meet the needs of residents and employees and help keep facilities in good condition. The role performs scheduled cleaning in assigned indoor and outdoor areas according to departmental standards and infection-control guidelines. It also includes maintaining floors, assisting with spills, completing project and deep cleaning, and supporting resident moves and campus linen services. The Housekeeper handles minor maintenance such as changing light bulbs, plunging toilets, and replacing batteries; maintains cleaning equipment; and observes and reports repair needs. Other duties include removing trash and recyclables, receiving and putting away supplies, and participating in snow and ice salting as needed. Weekend availability may be required.

Requirements

Some high school education.
Housekeeping and/or general maintenance experience.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing, with residents and staff.
Dependability, common sense, and ability to organize a daily cleaning schedule and complete assigned work.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work within standard policies and procedures with limited direct supervision.

Responsibilities

Clean assigned areas according to established schedules, departmental standards, and infection-control guidelines.
Complete minor maintenance tasks, including changing light bulbs, plunging toilets, and changing batteries.
Maintain floors through scheduled or assigned sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, waxing, vacuuming, extraction, hosting, and buffing.
Assist with cleaning emergency spills that are observed or reported.
Perform project cleaning, including walls, ceilings, vents, light fixtures, and windows.
Remove trash and recyclables from collection points, public areas, and outside entrances; transport them to disposal or pickup areas and replace liners as needed.
Deep clean rooms or units following transfers or discharges.
Move furniture and assist with resident moves during transfers or discharges.
Participate in the campus linen program, including distributing, collecting, counting, preparing linen for pickup, and handling incoming linen.
Make beds in guest rooms or residences as needed.
Maintain cleaning equipment and repair it or report repair needs as appropriate.
Observe and report needed repairs to facilities, furniture, and fixtures.
Help receive and put away campus supplies and deliveries.
Participate in campus snow and ice salting as needed.
