About The Position

The Housekeeper/Utility Worker performs daily, weekly, and monthly housekeeping tasks at Boys & Girls Village residences, schools, and administration buildings across all BGV sites. The role also assists the Facilities and Food Service departments as needed and is classified as essential to agency operations. The position includes routine cleaning, floor and carpet care, laundry, food and supply checks and delivery, bio cleanup, minor repairs, maintenance, and groundskeeping. The employee maintains agency training and promptly reports concerns or safety risks to a supervisor. As essential staff, the employee may need to work outside normal business hours or be called in when needed.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Housekeeping experience, including institutional housekeeping experience.
Experience using various hand tools for preventive maintenance and minor repairs, and maintaining outside grounds and walks.
Ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions orally and in writing.
Ability to interact courteously with clients, staff, and the public.
Valid driver's license at all times and a good driving record.
Ability to work outside normal business hours or be called in when needed.
Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
Ability to climb ladders and stairs, walk, sit, push, pull, and move continuously during work hours.
Ability to remain on one's feet for extended periods.
Ability to work with cleaning supplies and chemicals.
Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice.

Responsibilities

Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors and rugs.
Buff, strip, and wax floors.
Dust areas including vents, light fixtures, furniture, and window sills.
Wash windows and curtains.
Wash and fold soiled linens.
Keep closets clean, orderly, and locked.
Ensure adequate snacks and utensils are available.
Clean refrigerators and check food dates.
Clean and disinfect bathrooms and refill toiletries.
Empty trash and dispose of it in the dumpster.
Ensure only approved nontoxic chemicals are locked in unit closets.
Assist with snow shoveling and removal.
Perform bio cleanup and disposal.
Deliver food and supplies to other BGV locations.
Steam-clean carpeting and furniture.
Assist with minor repairs and maintenance.
Perform interior and exterior maintenance and groundskeeping.
Carry out other job-related duties as assigned.
Maintain Relias and agency trainings.
Immediately inform a supervisor of concerns or safety risks observed on the units.
Work outside normal business hours or be available to be called in, if needed.
