About The Position

The Housekeeping Supervisor/Inspector is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of hotel guest accommodations and public areas according to the standards established by the hotel. This role manages room cleaning operations to ensure methods meet company and brand standards, keeps room cleaning deficiencies to a minimum, and inspects assigned units daily to ensure standards are met. The supervisor also ensures operational standards for linen and inventory control, mattress rotation, key control, safety and security, storeroom organization, cart stocking, and lost and found are effective. The position projects a professional image, responds promptly to guest requests, oversees a general cleaning program, completes daily housekeeping reports, ensures equipment is maintained, monitors labor and productivity, maintains linen and supply costs within budget, controls inventories, and ensures key control procedures are followed. Additionally, the supervisor teaches safety prevention rules and techniques, including fire safety, and collaborates with other departments to solve operational problems and promote excellent guest service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and very rarely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, talk, hear and walk; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • The associate is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, taste or smell.
  • The associate is occasionally required to sit.
  • The associates must be able to read, see (close, distance and peripheral vision), adjust focus and apply depth and perception vision.

Responsibilities

  • Manages room cleaning operations to ensure methods meet company and brand standards and keeps room cleaning deficiencies to a minimum.
  • Inspects assigned units each day, ensuring that all standards are met and corrective action is taken by attendants as required. Inspect all VIP rooms daily.
  • Ensures all standards of operation operate effectively such as linen & inventory control procedures, rotation of mattresses, key control procedures, safety and security procedures, storeroom organization and cart stocking, lost and found.
  • Projects a professional image of the hotel.
  • Responds promptly and follows through on guest requests in effective and friendly manner to exceed guest expectations for service.
  • Personally, inspects rooms and public areas.
  • Oversee an ongoing general cleaning program with documented records for each unit.
  • Successfully completes daily housekeeping reports in timely manner.
  • Ensures all housekeeping and laundry equipment is maintained in working order through communication with the Executive Housekeeper and follow-up with the maintenance department, etc.
  • Monitors labor for the day, ensuring productivity standards remain on track.
  • Maintains linen and supply costs within annual budget.
  • Monitors and controls inventories and conduct accurate linen and supply inventory.
  • Ensures key control procedures are followed.
  • Knows and teaches safety prevention rules and techniques including fire safety to minimize workers compensation claims and company liability.
  • Works with all departments on a regular basis to solve interdepartmental hotel operations problems, to promote excellent guest service and to promote programs.
  • Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with guests and coworkers and including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Respectfully takes direction from supervisor.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures and reports all unsafe activities to supervisor.
  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve hotel and company goals.
  • Provides leadership to others through example and sharing knowledge and skills.

  • Directly oversees and supervises all positions in the department.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of all housekeeping associates.
  • Assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts and providing technical guidance on complex issues.
  • Training and development of subordinate staff, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring consistent application of organizational policies with limited or no guidance.
